Sustainable Fashion

Mom, I don't like this, can I please buy that trendy dress ?" This is a very common question in Millennials. As a parent what are you going to do about it? This is the time for conscious parenting. Are we doing enough to keep the environment safe for our offsprings? With eco-warriors all around us, how can we keep contributing to the landfills and become a part of the active pollution contributors? So, are we going to give in to their desires & wants, and further upset the ecosystem? Or, are we going to teach them Sustainability.  Have you noticed when you go for shopping with your children, they are always looking for something which is trendy and yet not bought by their friends. Sometimes they ask you to return the purchase, as their friend has already showcased the same dress on social media.  Yes with social media, there is a lot more pressure on the dressing. Even they do not like repeating their dress.  It's just not about the affordability, it's abo...

Desi is Me

Image
“Namaste, it’s a pleasure to meet you", I greeted to an Indian lady whom I had met for the first time. "I am not a Namaste type woman, I am very happening." She replied with revulsion. “Desi” and “Behenji” are just a few of the many titles Indian girls today loathe being referred to. Certain people even dislike being greeted with a Desi salutation!  How does something simple as an ethnic greeting determine the behavior or the personality of that person? How does wishing, “Namaste!” make you less popular? I love welcoming people in “Desi Andaaz”. I consider it respectful when someone greets me with “Namaste”. Therefore, it should not be frowned upon and viewed as outdated. Saree Styling Today's generation is scared of being Desi. They also want to be called happening. They don't want to be labeled Desi or Behenji. They wish to be Mod (Modern). In doing that they are losing their identity. Well, we have to be blamed for that. We have placed a judgemental m...

Love With Six Yards

Image
Love With Six Yards I cannot point to the time when my love for Six yards started. I fondly remember my pre-teen days, when I would wait for mom to leave for her social do. The moment she would step out of the house,I would instantly drape her dupatta as a Saree and walk around the house. I did not know the pleats, just knew that the piece of cloth goes around you two times and the Saree is done. Indeed it was difficult to walk around with that two layered drape, but I always assumed that the Saree brings in the feminity and the small steps endured with drape further emphasized that. Dupatta draped over a Skirt My mom was never a enthusiast Saree draper. She loved buying and collecting them. But she never enjoyed wearing one. She has Sarees from almost every part of India and some must be more than  50 years old.. Saree fron Kashmir from #momscloset Pure Silk Saree from #momscloset   I actually learnt the tricks of Saree draping when I joined hospit...
