Mom,
I don't want to thank you, I don't want to praise you...
I want to tell you, I do want to say to you..
as the life came along...and as I grew up..
you held my hand and emotions......


me taking the train and rushing to you...
pouring my heart break stories to you...
used the language you had never heard before...
you never questioned ....you just held my hand and emotions..


speaking my failures and sharing my pains..
with you on all the planes...
makes me come out with stronger motion...
you have always held my hand and emotions..


In sickness, you are my doctor,
In happiness, you mentor..
all looks so hunky dory..
with you holding my hand and emotions..


with your dependency you taught me independency..
tolerance is another learnt philosophy
selfless deeds of motherhood..
all I learnt from you holding my hands and emotions..


I don't want to thank you, I don't want to praise you...
I want to tell you, I do want to say to you..
God sent me to the right womb
Love is what I learnt from you..
and Love is what I say to you...

I Kept Standing there...

  I opened the door and showed him his room. His transition from sleeping in my room to his room. He clasped my hands as if never to leave me. I started negotiating with him. Telling him that he is no more a baby now. Now that he is a big boy, he must have his own room I kept standing there, convincing him to welcome his new space. He never closed his door. Festivals!! For us expats festivals have a very deep and a strong meaning. We left our country and societies and created a new world with other expats. Festivals are very nostalgic for all of us. We try to reconnect with our own selves and our cultures whenever ever the festivities arrive. As the Dubai weather cools down, the festivals celebrations starts in full swing. Every festival means new clothes, new garments. Fashion and trend changes every year and the exhibitions reflect the mood of the society. Designers flock around the city from September onwards digging deep in the buyer’s pockets. Every year these buyers go to the exhibitions and try and buy the eye catching, very unique clothing for every festive party they need to attend. “Namaste, it’s a pleasure to meet you", I greeted to an Indian lady whom I had met for the first time. "I am not a Namaste type woman, I am very happening." She replied with revulsion. “Desi” and “Behenji” are just a few of the many titles Indian girls today loathe being referred to. Certain people even dislike being greeted with a Desi salutation!  How does something simple as an ethnic greeting determine the behavior or the personality of that person? How does wishing, “Namaste!” make you less popular? I love welcoming people in “Desi Andaaz”. I consider it respectful when someone greets me with “Namaste”.
